Hi - We do have this functionality in Elemental, our latest theme. I'm not sure if we will add it to Mimbo Pro or not, but it's certainly a possibility. I will add it to the to do list so that i can discuss it with Darren. For the time being I would suggest using one of the many social plugins.

I'm resurrecting this because I think it's really, REALLY important on a site like Mimbo Pro - and any site for that matter - to have a very prominent panel either factored into the header area or just below the carousel in this instance, that shouts 'SUBSCRIBE!' to both email and RSS feed options.

Ben/Darren - for the time being until it's an integrated feature, could you recommend the best way forward to integrate a strong call to action panel with subscription options ourselves?

I think you know the kind of thing I mean - the best example I can think of right now is on the right hand side of the WP-Sublime theme by solostream.

Hi Dave, I think you will get the best results if you use a social plugin of some sort. These plugins will give you much more functionality than we can, and you will be able to position the widgets wherever you like.

The problem with building a theme is that you have to keep things very generic as different people have different requirements. Thankfully WordPresses widgets are awesome so installing plugins means you can make the changes you need quite easily.

Is there any particular reason you want this built into the theme rather than using a widget?

Hey Ben!

I was under the impression that to make your blog site run as efficiently as possible it was in your best interests to steer clear of plugins where possible, instead focus on integrating any core needs into the code.

I thought everyone - irrespective of the type of site they were building - wanted to have subscriptions built in as prominently as possible to encourage traffic?

Do you have any plugins in mind that might fit the bill?

Thanks!

Hey Dave, you did hear right, but this doesn't apply to all plugins. Something as basic as a subscription plugin would be no slower than something built in. If you want/ need the feature then you will incur the hit, but displaying an RSS feed should not be slow :)

I don't know when I will get time to do it but I might integrate a subscription widget into the theme as I do agree with your sentiments. If you check out my personal site (http://www.binarymoon.co.uk) you'll see it's littered with subscription links :)

However if I add a widget to the theme it will be no slower than any widget you download since they will both hook into the theme in the same way, and they will both do basically the same thing.

All that said - I don't have any recommendations for subscription widgets. I tend to create these types of things myself for my own sites.

Hey Ben!

Really, really would appreciate a nice subscription widget as per your comments above. Any movement on this?

Thanks for your excellent and uninterrupted support. It's appreciated by everyone in the community.

Dave
