Major Help With Mimbo! (Images, Carousel, etc)

Hi all!

I'm new to all of this, so bear with me!

I got everything set up on my blog nicely with Mimbo. I was all satisfied until... the first post I made.

The carousel isn't working correctly. I had to insert an image into my first post in order for the image to show up on the home page, which looks sloppy, etc.

Here are the things I really need help with:

1) On the home page, next to the recent stories, there is nothing to the left of that! Why isn't a featured post showing up there? How can I fix this?
2) Carousel isn't working right. I get a blank picture (error picture) on Safari. It shows the link to the post, but no photo. How can I fix this?

If you need clarification, I'll be happy to explain further.

^ See how I had to insert an image? I primarily don't want an image in that post because it's sloppy looking, but it was the only way I could get a thumbnail for the post to show up on the main page.

Thanks for the message - it looks like you're pretty close to getting everything working, just a few small tweaks and you will be all set.

The problem with the images not showing is that the images are hosted on an external domain. If you use WordPress built in image upload functionality then the images will work fine.

If you don't want an image in the post, but you want the image to show up then you can use a custom field with the name of "image" and it will display the image on the homepage.

I'm not sure why the featured post isn't showing though. Could it be that you've chosen a featured category in the theme admin that has no posts in it?

I wuld like to just have the image show up on the home page. At the moment, I don't wish for an image to show in the post itself.
I've read up about the custom field and how to use coding on how to embed the picture, but I'm not sure how to configure it. I'm new to all of this.
Could you bring some guidance?

In most of my posts I have not inserted an image. All I do is to upload the image using the wordpress image uploader. Then I save and exit the image uploader and publish the post. It works for me.

Probably the access right on one of your folders. See bullet 3 in the FAQ here http://prothemedesign.com/support/mimbo-pro-help/

If that's already done - have you tried to do Ctrl+F5 (in IE)?

I do have GD installed on my host. I use HostGator and a support technician verified that for me and configured that and even TimThumb for me.

Now my question is- how can I add an image associated with my post without having it show up in the post? I only want the image showing up on the home page for the posts in the carousel, featured posts, etc.
How am I able to do that? Thank you!

Simply upload the image in WP like you would normaly do, but do not INSERT the image Just clik SAVE SETTINGS. Then publish your post/article.

Alrighty. I uploaded a photo as I normally would. I did not insert it into the post.
However, it still won't show up under the home page. I refreshed the page, and it still doesn't work.

I really don't know what's going on!

It must be an access rights challenge. Please check this again: /scripts/cache/ folder is set to 777. In your ftp app. stand on the folder "cache" and then write: chmod 777 cache

I thank you all again for continuing to help me!
I'm using Filezilla for my FTP uploader. Under the cache folder, the file permissions were set to 755. I set that folder to 777. When I did, most of the formatting just disappeared from my site!
I honestly don't know what I'm doing wrong at this point.

So to clarify - you're trying to make the image show on the homepage without it showing in the post?

You need to do as I suggested at the top of this post :)

In the admin go to the edit post page for the post you want to add an image too, and then add a new custom field. Call it Image, and then add the path to the image (eg /wp-content/uploads/imageName.jpg) and then the image will show up.

If you want me to set up an image for you then send me your purchases reference number and a wordpress login through the helpdesk - http://prothemedesign.com/support/helpdesk/ - and I would be happy to set up a sample so you can see it working.

@Ben: My pleassure. The more forum interaction the better (IMO). If one helps the forum to become what one wants, it will become just that ;-)

I hope not Technolochic gives up on this one. I'm using both MimboPro/Dispatch (www.reinar-svendsen.dk) and Elemental/The Local (www.f1ezine.com), and I'm not using a "custom field" for images/thumbs. I'm doing exactly what Technolochic wants. A login would be ultimate as Ben asks for, 'cause it will work ;-)

It looks to me like Technolochic is using version 1 of Mimbo Pro which does not support the auto thumbs that are in the more recent versions (although auto thumbs have been support since about April).

Also you can use a custom field if you want to override the automatically chosen thumbnail.

I think technolochic may be uploading the image from the media uploader OUTSIDE of the post edit page. What MimboF1 does works ONLY if you upload an image clicking on the media icon in the WYSIWYG editor. That way, you upload the image, it gets bound to the post gallery, but it is not automatically inserted into the post unless you click on "Insert into post". If you just upload the image in the media manager, that won't place that image into the post gallery.
