Accumulo Modification

This theme is awesome! I'm not a developer but I can make some minor code changes, so bear with me. I think these would be small changes, if so can someone please give me a little guidance? Many thanks. 1. Currently when clicking on an RSS feed link it navigates away from site. Would like to open a new window instead. Thanks |

Hi, I'm also looking for these features... 1. Currently when clicking on an RSS feed link it navigates away from site. Would like to open a new window instead. |

hmmm - interesting comments. Generally clicking on any link should open the link in the same window, it's standard best practice for usability, but I guess I could add an option to the widgets so that you can choose. Not sure why you would want the tabs on the post pages though. How do you see them working? Do you mean you would like to have the homepage tabs on the post page - ie below the post content? I could add that as another theme option as well |

Hi Ben, Yes that might be the standard, but we gotta click links to other sites too many times, thats the reason new window should be helpful for some. for the single blog post, something like this would be cool: http://img22.imageshack.us/img22/9417/singletx.jpg TQ |

So you want the tabs to be added to the top of the single post pages as well? Personally I can't understand the appeal of that. I'd have thought it would be better to get people to go to a single place to view the tabbed content. I'm not sure if this is something we will add or not, it's not a straight forward thing to do. Potentially it may be quite straight forward to add it in the footer under the single post content though. |

Ben, Maintaining the tabs at the top of the post (as the graphic above shows) keeps the site looking consistent and once the user is on a post page it is not easily intuitive on how to get back to the tabs without clicking the back button on the browser. Clicking home to get back to the tabs is not very intuitive either. I have the blog set as the first tab and to have the tabs disappear is a little disorienting. Is the RSS Feed widget update (option to open a new window) definitely in the queue for the next update? Don't mean to be pushy but would rather stick to the theme without customization for a while so that I don't have to redo changes with each update. Thanks so much, |
|
Hey Ben can you pls share how to make the links open in a new window? i guess it would be an easy mod? Thanks, |

Personally I concur with Ben on the "open link" best practice. If the content is worth it, visitors will come back. In addition, many visitors use a variety of browser add ons e.g. Google and Yahoo bars which will "kill" your pop-ups and so on. Here's though an example as to how a link can open in a new window: |
|
|
The open link option will be in the next update. The tabs option probably won't be as it's a bigger change. |
|
Thank You. |

The open link option is now released. Make sure to delete the cache from the tools/temp directory after updating the theme. The option is in the theme control panel rather than the widget controls. |

Can you recommend a best practices for updating the theme? Or do we just be careful not to overwrite any changes we've made to the them itself? Also, is monitoring this forum the only way to know when the theme has been updated? Would be great to see something in the Dashboard like, 'Accumulo theme has been updated. Grab the latest copy'. |

At the moment we're not announcing updates officially as there are so many of them. Once the theme has settled down (ie we stop releasing so many changes) we will announce major updates on the blog. Automatic updates within the theme itself have been considered and may happen in the future. I would suggest changes are made using a child theme, as you can then update the parent theme without worrying about your changes being lost. You can read about child themes on the WordPress help page here: http://prothemedesign.com/support/general-wordpress-help/ |
