The url looks as it is meant to look - it's displayed in a funny way so that the image url and the thumbnail parameters do not conflict :)

Could you try updating the script to the latest version of timthumb? I want to make sure we're all using the same code. You can update the code here: http://timthumb.googlecode.com/svn/trunk/timthumb.php

Some hosts have to manually enable the timthumb.php script (for example Hostgator). Who's your host?

First, check that the cache folder exists on the server with write permissions (777) or images can't be saved. If that doesn't work, ask your host if they have mod_security enabled. This can stop the script running.

If that still doesn't work let me know.

I've noticed the url to the front page pictures is like this:
http://www.westmedia.org/wp-content/themes/mimbopro/scripts/timthumb.php?w=70&h=70&src=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.westmedia.org%2Fwp-content%2Fuploads%2F747_takeoff1-300x225.jpg

Is messes up the url with code like %3A%2F
Could this be the cause of the problems. And if so, how can I change it?

Hi Ben,

Thanks for your suggestion. I've reinstalled WordPress completely, just to be sure. I've changed the permission for cache and temp (and the uploads folder), but it is still not working. Any suggestions?

I've just installed Mimbo Pro. When I post an article and include a picture, this image is not showing on the front page and as thumbnail.
In the upload folder I can see new pictures have been created with new dimensions.

* WordPress is installed in root

The timthumb.php script can be modified to allow your external images to be called.

You need to open up scripts/timthumb.php and find
function checkExternal ($src) {
(around line 540) and add your domain to the list which includes flickr.com, wordpress.com etc.

mike, I see the same thing when using images that link to an outside web site. For thumbs to work properly, you appear to need the images on your WP server.

Hi Dave - I am afraid we don't really have any guidelines for this.

I know you've made a lot of changes to the theme so if you're happy to do that then you could store the new images in a custom field (eg carouselImage) and then use that in the carousel. This does mean you'd have to go backwards and add new fields for all posts, or add some sort of fallback so that it uses the automatic thumbnails if the custom field doesn't exist.

The best comments I have for the image size is to make them as square as possible (dimensions don't matter, widtf/ height ratio does). Then they will display well in most situations.

Help me out here a little.

I have all sorts of photos published on my Mimbo Pro-powered site.

Not all of them conform (obviously) to the shape of the main picture, and then of the picture dimensions in the carousel.

First off: Is there a way I can have a different picture display in the main picture area (Breaking News placeholder, if you will) to the carousel?

If not, give me cast iron dimensions I need to follow to ensure the element of the photo is as close to dead centre and being shown without distress in both the main (breaking news) area, and also in the carousel.

That makes sense, right? I am a journalist, so I hope I can communicate this clearly!

Hi - thanks for the message. I'm not sure where you want to resize the images?

The resizing on the archive pages is entirely automatic. Currently you are stuck with the sizes we chose but in the next version there will be options to resize the images or even disable them entirely.

Are any of the other directories set to 777 permissions? You should check all directories higher than the tools directory (so v4, themes, wp-content) if any other them are 777 then there's a chance the script won't work.

If this doesn't help then please send me your ftp information via the helpdesk (http://prothemedesign.com/support/helpdesk/) and I will see if I can work out what the issue is.

It's not commonly known but TimThumb does actually work with Flickr.

Viewing your site it looks like your timthumb is not set up correctly which is why the thumbnails do not show.
