Thanks for the help!

I'm not that good with php so it's something I'm going to try and implement through a trial and error process, but it's good to know what I am looking for :-)

I'm currently using wordpress 2.3.2 (still a bit scared to upgrade to 2.5 for various reasons) and am having trouble getting my right sidebar widgets to work. In the options menu under 'Reading' I currently have 'A Static Page' selected because my page is being skewed when I select 'Your Latest Posts'. I tried disabling my widgets but this didn't seem to help. When I display the carousel by choosing 'Your Latest Post' under the 'Reading' option, the right hand widgets show up but the page gets completed skewed and I'm not sure how to fix this (note: the page is also skewed regardless of whether I use widgets or not).

I apologize for all the questions but thought it would be easier to list them all because they are related issues.

My questions are:
1) Is there a way to use the right hand sidebar widgets using the 'Static Page' option?
2) Is there something obvious I am doing wrong which is causing my site to skew completely when I choose 'Your Latest Post'?
3) For this particular site I don't necessarily need the carousel on the front page. Is there a way to only display it on pages of your choice?

My site is http://bignavi.jp/news
If you need more information in order to help please let me know. I previously sent Ben my login details for a separate issue which he solved, so if required you can use the same pswd and login to check the site out. Thanks in advance for your help!

solved. thanks to ben and darren for the fast return :)

if anyone has same problem this will link has helped me a lot.
http://codex.wordpress.org/Using_Permalinks

"Creating and editing (.htaccess)
If you do not already have a .htaccess file, create one. If you have shell or ssh access to the server, a simple touch .htaccess command will create the file. If you are using FTP to transfer files, create a file on your local computer, call it 1.htaccess, upload it to the root of your WordPress folder, and then rename it to .htaccess.

You can edit the .htaccess file by FTP, shell, or (possibly) your host's control panel.

If your .htaccess file contains errors that bring down your site ("Internal Server Error (500)"), you will need to use FTP or your host's control panel to delete the rogue .htaccess file. "

You can always create a custom template called 'Blog', include all the standard Loop stuff, and also add the "get_query_var('paged')" bit from this example...

http://www.darrenhoyt.com/2008/02/02/combining-featured-posts-with-the-standard-loop/

I'm not sure I understand. You want to make a page template that looks like a normal blog page and lists 6-7 posts?

This is more than possible but will depend entirely upon your php skills. I would suggest reading up on custom wordpress templates and the query_posts function as between the two of them you should be able to work something out.

Wordpress 2.51, Mimbo pro 1.3, Under Design/Mimbo pro Options/Category Summaries: has no navigation arrows to select multiple categories to display. You have to use SHIFT-UP ARROW and hope you don't select a category you don't want. :) Works fine in IE however.

What would be great is to be able to have multiple pages while retaining the same look from the first page. So on each page there is a lead story, which is the first story from that page. If that makes sense.

hi everyone,
when trying to change my permalink structure to http://www.site.com/2008/05/14/sample-post/" wpadmin says "If your .htaccess file were writable, we could do this automatically, but it isn’t so these are the mod_rewrite rules you should have in your .htaccess file. Click in the field and press CTRL + a to select all." and gives some codes below it.

i didnt manage to find my .htaccess files in my media temple hosting. i use cute ftp and did the things right for hidden files. but no .htaccess around.

i also uploaded a file called .htaccess but it gave me error for whole site.

does anyone have an idea?

thanks,

Now all the last comments are displayed on the bottomside of the site.
Does anyone know how to get comments from a specific category?
Think I have figured out that some extra code has to be added to the sql code in Meta.php were it states:

WHERE comment_approved = '1' AND comment_type = ''

Anyone know what the WHERE syntax is to get a specific category?

Hope I was a bit clear :)

If you don't use a category then you should delete it from within Wordpress.

Off the top of my head I think we use the wp_list_categories command for the menu - in which case you can use the exclude parameter to remove any unwanted categories. More info here - http://codex.wordpress.org/Template_Tags/wp_list_categories

That's very strange - no idea what's going on there. The first thing that springs to mind is some sort of plugin conflict.

I will put my thinking cap on and see if I can come up with anything else...

You can add another one by copying the code. If you're happy with the php then you will just need to make sure to specify a different category. You would also need to specify an additional div id in the jquery initialization in the head.

Same problem here, I also want to display about 20 articles per category, this is possible but it doesn't allow you to go to the next or previous page because there is no link. the only way then to show all your posts under a category is to let the list grow and grow which I don't like.

is there really no easier way to get something basic like this implemented?

I guess its a problem specific to my site. It's weird because I've disabled every plugin and tested it with the same effect.

I just wonder if it would just be a matter of duplicating code to get a second carousel on the frontpage? Think the mainproblem is that the carouselcontent is controlled through the mimbo pro options tab were you need to define the category to display.
The carousel is a great way to display all our photoassignments but want to add another one below that for video. Anyone any thoughts?
